You have 500Mbps fiber internet. Speed tests show flying colors. Netflix works perfectly in 4K. But the moment you turn on a Premier League match on IPTV, it starts buffering. The ball freezes mid-air. The circle spins.
You are being throttled.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Virgin Media, BT, Sky, and TalkTalk use sophisticated "Traffic Shaping" technology. during peak times (like Saturday 3pm or Champions League nights), they automatically detect data packets that look like streamed sports.
To save bandwidth (and push you toward their own expensive TV packages), they artificially slow down just that specific connection, causing buffering.
If the stream suddenly becomes smooth with the VPN on, your ISP was throttling you.
The only way to stop throttling is to hide your traffic. A VPN encrypts your data. Your ISP can see that you are using data, but they cannot see what that data is. If they can't see it's football, they won't throttle it.
At PremLeaguePass, we have built-in anti-throttling measures in our custom apps. However, for the most aggressive ISPs (Virgin Media is the worst offender), we recommend using a third-party VPN like Surfshark or NordVPN alongside our service.
Don't let your ISP dictate what you can watch.
